"Notwithstanding the progress made so far, Indonesia continues to face significant development challenges, especially in the areas of poverty reduction, service delivery and decentralisation… Further effort is still needed to meet all the MDGs targets…" (Jakarta Commitment, 12th January 2009)
Within the sector of Good Governance and Decentralisation, the governments of Indonesia and Germany are co-jointly implementing several inter-related projects aimed at, on the one hand, supporting the improvement of public services and, on the other hand, enhancing the legal framework for decentralisation. The overall goal of the cooperation is:
Strengthen sub-national government authorities to better fulfil their functions in the areas of planning, budgeting, and the provision of public services.
